Princeton University School of Architecture students joined their peers from the University of Tokyo Department of Architecture for a joint workshop from October 28th through November 6th. The workshop, which was part of a strategic partnership initiated by Professors Jesse Reiser of Princeton University and Yusuke Obuchi of the University of Tokyo, aimed to encourage students from both campuses to create an active exchange of the knowledge of architectural discourse from each culture.

The first workshop was held earlier this year during which students engaged in discussions with Japanese architects such as Fumihiko Maki, Arata Isozaki, and Hiroshi Hara. The second workshop conducted this fall focused on American architects such as Steven Holl, Bernard Tschumi, and Thom Mayne. Student participants from Princeton University included Nicholas Risteen, Clelia Pozzi, Jieun Doe, John Cooper, Robert Becker, Alissa Lopez Serfozo and Lily Zhang. Participants from the University of Tokyo included Deborah Lopez, Hadin Charbel, Justin Hsu, Masumi Ogawa, and Kota Isobe. The workshop assistant was Toshiki Hirano.

Students were provided with seminal essays of each architect and discussed about their ideas and concepts in a preparatory seminar, before visiting their offices and conducting interviews. Student also visited buildings designed by the architects located in New York and Princeton.
