The Architecture of Change: Politics of Identity in the United States

A virtual lecture from Henry R. Muñoz III

Thursday, April 1, 12:00pm

Stream on: Facebook Live*

Henry R. Muñoz III (born December 1959) is a nationally respected voice on behalf of the Latino community, an award-winning designer, and a leader at the highest levels of American politics, art, public affairs, and philanthropy.

He has launched multiple national movements including Momento Latino, TheDream.US, and Latino Victory to support the Latinx community through awareness, college funding, and electoral support. He is the co-founder of SOMOS US, a community-centric health care network in NYC that has been at the forefront of battling the COVID-19 pandemic treating largely minorities and under-served communities.

Muñoz is the former Chairman of the Board & CEO of Muñoz & Company, one of the largest and oldest minority-owned design practices in the country. Under his leadership, Muñoz & Company pioneered an approach to architecture, urban planning, and design that acknowledges the imprint of the Latino community upon the built environment of the United States. He helped found the effort to create a Latino Museum on the Mall in Washington D.C., as chairman of the Commission to study the Creation of the National Museum of the American Latino.

He has served on the boards of multiple philanthropic and activist organizations, including VIA Metropolitan Transit, the National Park Foundation, Loyola University New Orleans, and the Henry Ford Learning Institute.

Muñoz is the Finance Chair emeritus of the Democratic National Committee, the first Latino and openly gay man to ever hold that position. He and his husband, Kyle Ferrari-Muñoz, are currently living in New York and Connecticut.
