As a response to 'Structure Systems' by Heino Engel and 'Energy and Form' by Ralph Knowles, the design for a cafe/classroom/gallery building on Princeton University campus utilizes form finding software to generate a thin, concrete shell structure. Sunken into the landscape the shell becomes occupiable with a green roof system insulating the thin concrete shell. Pre-fabricated concrete panels serve as formwork for another layer of thin concrete poured on-site. The formwork panels also motif the interior space reminiscent of Princeton's gothic architectural influences and provide additional, reinforcing material at the highest levels of stress along the shell structure.
