Lyndon Neri is a co-founder of Neri&Hu Design and Research Office based in Shanghai, as well as a founding partner of Design Republic, whose work centers on the areas of culture, retail, and education. Neri has taught at various institutions including the Yale School of Architecture, Harvard Graduate School of Design, and University of California, Berkeley. He holds a Master of Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. Since 2010, he has been a board member of Brooklyn’s Roll & Hill LLC, and was appointed Creative Director of the international furniture brand, Stellar Works in 2015.
Rossana Hu
Along with co-founding Neri&Hu Design and Research Office and the Design Republic with Lyndon in 2004, Rossana is also deeply committed to architectural education. Her teaching appointments include the Yale School of Architecture, Harvard Graduate School of Design, and serving as the Department of Architecture Chair at Tongji University in 2021. Most recently, she was appointed as Chair of the Department of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania’s Stuart Weitzman School of Design, effective January 1, 2024. Rossana received her Master of Architecture and Urban Planning at Princeton University and her Bachelor of Arts in Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley with a minor in music. She has served on the International Advisory Board of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra since 2018. Along with Lyndon, she was appointed as the Creative Director of Stellar Works
Neri&Hu Design and Research Office is an architectural practice which reinforces a global worldview of overlapping design disciplines for a critical paradigm in architecture. They believe strongly in research as a design tool, as each project bears its unique set of contextual issues. From product design to branding, furniture to exhibitions, graphics to buildings, each informing the other. Based in Shanghai, they situated their work and practice within what has been considered the contemporary city, and a new global frontier. In 2007, they co-authored and edited Persistence of Vision: Shanghai Architects in Dialogue, published by MCCM Creations. Ten years later, Park Books published their first monograph, Neri&Hu Design and Research Office, followed by a second monograph, Thresholds: Space, Time and Practice, published in 2021 by Thames&Hudson, then translated into a Chinese edition published by Guangxi Normal University Press in 2023. Their work has been internationally recognized, having won numerous awards, including the Architectural Review Emerging Architecture Award (2010), Far Eastern Architectural Design Award (2014), ELLE Decor Japan Design Awards Designers of the Year (2016), FRAME Lifetime Achievement Award (2021), Dezeen Awards Architecture Studio of the Year (2021), and Architizer A+ Awards Jury Winner (2022).
