Last weekend, the OHNY Media Board, a project conceived and produced by Princeton University's School of Architecture M.Arch students, was on view at the 2016 OHNY Weekend. During the spring 2016 semester, Open House New York served as the client for students enrolled in ARC509 (Integrated Building Systems), a hands-on introduction to building systems and methods of construction. Under the guidance of instructor Peter Pelsinski, students Kendall Baldwin (AI), Julian Harake, Kayla Manning, Andrew Percival, and Ryan Roark designed, developed, and fabricated this 16’ x 7’ reconfigurable wall, a space-making installation which seeks to distribute information to as well as collect information from OHNY Weekend participants. Constructed from off-the-shelf plywood, the media board acts as a multi-faceted kiosk, which provides passersby with a map of Open Access sites, Weekend Event Guides, feedback questionnaires, and even engraved pencils - all for the taking! The piece is meant to be visually impactful, inventive and communicate both the scope and spirit of OHNY's annual endeavor.
