Mario Gandelsonas: Acting Dean through 2015

Mario Gandelsonas, Class of 1913 Lecturer in Architecture, has been named the acting dean of the School of Architecture, effective as of July 1.

Gandelsonas joined the faculty in 1991 as an architect and theorist whose specializations include urbanism and semiotics. His contributions to the School have been plentiful and include a previous appointment as acting dean during the 2001-02 academic year. Gandelsonas served as the first director of CAUI, the Center for Architecture, Urbanism and Infrastructure, from 2007-2013. Currently, he is the lead and principal researcher for the “Fluvial Metropolis” joint project with the University of Sao Paulo sponsored by the Princeton Environmental Institute and funded by the Council for International Teaching and Research. 

His work, which includes residential, institutional, and urban design projects, has received numerous design awards. His firm, Agrest & Gandelsonas Architects, has implemented major projects both domestically and abroad.  Gandelsonas has published extensively and is a frequent contributor to architectural journals.

Gandelsonas’ appointment ends Dec. 31 as Monica Ponce de Leon assumes the role of dean on Jan. 1, 2016.
