Reservation Systems

Students will have access to the shop facilities during their designated building access hours. Please visit this link for your designated building access hours. We may be able to add more hours later in the semester. Please read below for more information and reservation protocols.

 

 

 

Access and occupancy instructions for the SoA facilities will be updated here as they become available. Please note: plans are subject to change and pending approval by EHS.

 

 

 

 

GENERAL RULES FOR USE OF SHOPS

Note: subject to change and pending approval by EHS.

 

In accordance with health and safety guidelines, students using the shops and ECL must comply with the following policies:

 

  • Masks must be worn at all times, and students must maintain social distancing at all times. If social distancing is not possible for a specific task, you must forgo the task and look for a different way to accomplish your desired goal.
  • Limit 5 students total at any time in the SoA Shops and in the ECL. 
  • Students must sanitize any touched surface before and after use. Wipes and sanitizer will be provided.
  • Students must make appointments to use the shops or receive training - this must be done at least 24 hours in advance, via the online system here.
  • Students must adhere to the published work schedules, and must sign in and sign out at the monitor desk. Please limit time in SoA Shops as much as possible - do not exceed 4 hours per week.
  • Students must remove all materials and personal equipment from the shops promptly upon completing shop-specific tasks. Assembly work not requiring shop tools must be done outside of the shops. Please allow at least 1 week for material delivery. Material delivery may be further impacted by COVID-19.
  • Shops and ECL are reserved for coursework only, no personal projects are permitted. No tools will be allowed to leave the SoA Shops or ECL.

 

ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RULES 

SoA CNC

  • Limit 2 students in the CNC Shop at any time.
  • Do not leave the CNC mill unattended.
  • End mills and bits must be acquired in advance. The shop will not be responsible for providing this equipment.

 

SoA Laser Cutters

  • Limit 1 Student in the Laser Cutter Room at any time.
  • Do not leave the Laser Cutters unattended.

  

SoA Zund

  • Do not leave the Zund unattended.

 

SoA Resin and Powder Printing

  • Files must virtually be approved by SoA Staff before projects can be printed.
  • Files will be printed by SoA Staff, and left when complete in the designated drop off zone.
  • Students are responsible for agreeing to the expected costs before the print job will begin, charges will be billed to the student accounts.

 

Print Locker & ECL

  • Tabletop and workspace use are limited to essential use only.

 


 

FALL 2020 SHOP STAFFING

Shop Staff

Available at minimum 4 hours a day, 7 days a week. Shop staff are available during building hours.

 

Student Monitors

Student monitors will be responsible for permitting occupancy, ensuring sanitation and cleanliness of shops, and distributing tools. Student monitors will be trained to properly operate the Resin and Powder printers, and will be responsible for printing, maintenance, and use of these machines. Student monitors will not be responsible for the training of tools and equipment, in order to limit student proximity.
