Dean Ponce de Leon to Receive BEVY Award for Academic Excellence

The Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation—which elevates women in architecture—will honor Dean Monica Ponce De Leon with their annual BEVY Award for Academic Excellence.

The BWAF advocates for gender equity in leadership and recognition in the architecture, design, landscape, engineering, technology, real estate and construction industries, and works to acknowledge, cultivate, and value women’s contributions and achievements—past, present, and future—by researching and documenting women’s contributions and achievements in the built realm, educating the public, and transforming industry practices.  Founder Beverly Willis—a trailblazing architect who established her own firm in 1966 and established the foundation in 2002—passed away this year. The BWAF is led by Executive Director Cynthia Phifer Kracauer, who holds a Masters of Architecture from the SoA.

Past honorees for Academic Excellence include J. Meejin Yoon, Dean of the Cornell College of Architecture, Art, and Planning (honored in 2022) and Sarah M. Whiting, Dean and Josep Lluís Sert Professor of Architecture at Harvard GSD (honored in 2021).

Dean Ponce De Leon joins five other BEVY Award recipients this year: Christopher Hawthorne, Elizabeth Velez, Elizabeth Leber of Beyer Blinder Belle, Mariana Giraldo of Perkins&Will, and Rosalind Tsang. The Gala awards event will be held on Monday, November 13th, at Bryant Park Grill in New York City. The 2023 award recipients will be honored November 13th in New York.
